Merida, Yuc. (elgordogringo.com.mx ) July 18, 2021- The Mexican National team arrived in Mexico City Sunday to enter the four day isolation before their historic departure to Tokyo this Thursday. This is the first year that the Mexican National Baseball team has made an appearance at the Olympics– winning bronze in the 12-team WBSC Premier12 Tournament in 2019, automatically qualifying to compete as one of six teams in baseball in the 2020 Olympics.
Benjamin Gil– who controversially replaced manager Juan Gabriel Castro a month ago– had a heart to heart talk with the players after assembling in Mexico City “We are going to create a family from here and until the Games are over, Do not stop believing and do whatever is necessary to bring us that medal.”
Part of the training for this years olympics will be coaching staff and players reviewing health and safety protocols implemented by the Tokyo 2020 Olympic organizing committee– who recently released that there will be no fans in attendance at this years games.
Practice will begin Monday at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium to acclimate players to the grueling Japanese time difference that they will be playing under. The national team has a couple preparatory games scheduled prior to its debut in the Olympic Games on July 29th against the Dominican Republic at 12:00 local time (10:00 pm Central Mexico time on Thursday 29).
Likewise, they will repeat the dynamics first thing in the morning on Tuesday to close on Wednesday at noon with the last training session in Mexican territory before embarking on their journey to Olympic lands at dawn on Thursday.
