Puebla (elgordogringo.com.mx) July 29, 2021- Following Sunday’s loss against the Diablos Rojos de Mexico, the Pericos de Puebla move to fourth in the division after an 11-16 win against the Mariachis of Guadalajara.

Starting pitcher Yuén Socarrás took the mound for the Pericos, having a disastrous first inning where he allowed five runs. However, fortunately for the Puebla team, the Mariachis pitcher also had a nightmare first inning, allowing seven runs. Both starters left the game in the first inning.

In the second inning, the Pericos added a couple more runs to the box score, extending their lead to four; however, the Puebla team’s pitching struggled again, allowing four runs in the top of the fifth inning, bringing the score to 9-9.

The tie was short-lived thanks to American David Olmedo, who hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, allowing the Pericos to retake the lead, which was extended to 9-12 in the sixth inning with a couple of runs driven by catcher Isidro Piña.

The Pericos relievers managed to keep zero in the seventh inning; however, Mariachis’ team got dangerously close in the eighth, with a pair of RBIs by Leo Heras, moving within a run of the tie.

Fortunately for Puebla fans, Pericos’ offense scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, securing victory in the first game of the series against Mariachis.
