Merida, Yuc. (elgordogringo.com.mx) July 15, 2021.- NEWS: Leones sign 13-year vetren reliver Edwin Quirarte. Quirarte makes his return to Mexico after playing independent ball in the states since 2019– this year for West Virginia Power, where he racked up three wins to one loss, a 3.70 ERA, and 25 strikeouts through 24 innings as a reliever.

Edwin was drafted in the fifth round in 2008 by the San Francisco Giants, making it to the AAA level before coming to Mexico in 2015, playing for Tijuana, León, Monclova, and Saltillo as in the Venezuelan Winter League.

The Leones hope that the Ventura native can lend his experience to a young bullpen and help close the season strong to reach the postseason. This signing comes on the heels of another signing of a starting pitcher and with less than 20 games left in the season– I expect them to enter the rotation sooner rather than later.
