Merida, Yuc. (elgordogringo.com.mx) July 30, 2021.- The Leones de Yucatan pounced on the Pirates de Campeche, winning 12-5 in the first game of the series Friday.

A couple of rallies secured the victory for the leones as they get closer to their only goal of the season: a postseason berth, which could come automatically by adding one more win in the five remaining games of the season.

Yucatán went strung together a four-run rally in the fourth inning, thanks to the fourteenth homer from the Italian Alex Liddi, knocking in Walter Ibarra, Humberto Sosa, and Marco Jaime unstoppable.

In the fith, the Leones put together a lethal six-race rally punctuated by an Humberto Sosa home run, a single by Walter Ibarra, and a triple by Jaime, who cleared the bases to seal the impressive six-run inning. 

The Leones scored their last two runs in the eighth inning thanks to a homer by Art Charles that went over the right-field wall, knocking in Sosa.

The emotions of the Peninsular Classic will continue this Saturday at 5:45 pm. Doctors, nurses, and medical assistants will enter the Kukulcán Alamo Park at no cost.
