A scene that has become familiar to Leones fans played out, for the second time in as many weeks, in yesterday’s double header vs Oaxaca; a commanding victory followed by a decisive loss— the only difference being the order of the win in loss.
Game 1 started with a first inning Oaxaca run— their only for the game— giving them the lead til the Leones stepped to the plate in fifth scoring five runs on a Oaxaca pitching rotation that would give up a total of seven in late innings (another team plagued by inconsistent relievers.)
Alex Liddi was the MVP for game one amassing 4 total runs for the Leones— runs plus RBIs— with .324 batting avg and a 1.046 OPS.
Game 2 saw a pitching duel through five innings when in the sixth Oaxaca was able to score two runs against Leones starting pitcher Dalton Rodriguez and reliever Enrique Burgos. Dismal batting lost us the game with three players in the lineup batting below .200.
Game three of the series is to be played tonight in Oaxaca and Friday the Leones travel to Veracruz before heading back home.
