Merida, Yuc. (El Gordo Gringo) June 26, 2021.- The lineup seemed to focus more on hitting and putting runners in scoring position– connecting for 17 hits and zero home runs– than they have in recent games in the come-from-behind victory over the Pericos de Puebla.

My wife had a premonition before the game that it felt like the Leones were going to win, and when your defense put it all out there as Pepon did– it’s hard to argue. However, when the leones stepped to the plate in the third inning, down by six, I was skeptical, but in maybe the most exciting inning in Leones baseball this season– five runners crossed the plate tieing the score 6-6!

I would say that things started in the second inning with a spectacular catch from the part-time DH and part-time left fielder Luis ¨Pepon¨ Juárez, who managed to move like a freight train on his way to snag a foul ball, colliding with a wall falling between it, and the netting.

The Italian Alex Liddi stepped to the plate in the third inning, starting the five-run rally with a double, bringing Obeso to the plate for a single and RBI as Liddi crossed home. Yadir Drake was next in the line-up and hit a double, bringing the score to 6-3 as Obeso crossed the plate and the Pueblas’ lead dwindled. ¨Pepon¨ Juarez stepped to the plate, driving a deep ball to center field for a single, and Drake advanced to third.

Art Charles came to the plate knocking up a sacrifice fly driving Drake from third, bringing the score 6-4 Puebla. The shortstop Jorge Flores took the plate with runners on first and third, getting a triple driving in Fernando Perez and Juarez home tieing the game 6-6.

A pair of runs in the seventh and a single run scored in the eighth clinched a leones victory and ended Pueblas seven game win streak!

The final game of the series is tonight at 5:45 pm, and jungle Yoanner ‘Asere’ Negrín will take the mound seeking to make history as the third-best pitcher in the franchise. Tickets are now available at, stadium ticket offices, and Leoneshop Plaza Altabrisa.
