The Leones extend their win streak to three as reliever Josh Lueke is credited with the save in a game that went to the bottom of the ninth with bases loaded and two outs. Lueke threw the final strike ending Oaxcas hopes for a last-minute victory resulting in a 7-5 win for the Leones!
For the third straight week under new interim manager Francisco ‘Chico’ Rodríguez, the Leones saw a stellar time at the plate, connecting on 13 hits for a total of 7 RBIs and 1 home run. We also saw fan-favorite Jonny Jones make his return from the line up adding a stolen base after being out for weeks due to an elbow injury.
Leone’s starting pitcher, Jake Thompson took the mound for five innings, allowing 4 runs. The Leone’s offense went on an early run tear, crossing the plate 6 times after the fifth inning relievers Heriberto Ruelas, David Gutiérrez, Enrique Burgos, and Josh Lueke took the mound keeping the Guerros scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The game’s only home run came in the third inning as the Italian superman Alex Liddi knocked one out of the park for a solo home run. The offense seems to have returned to the team playstyle that saw the Leones go on an 8 game win streak to begin the season.
The second game of the series is tonight at 7:00 pm; the Leones will send Dalton Rodríguez to the mound. The game can be enjoyed live on jonrón.tv, La Comadre 98.5 and SIPSE TV.
