Merida, Yuc. ( June 28, 2021.- Today marks the third anniversary of the Leones 2018 league championship– the fourth of the franchise– and as they hit the road to take on Oaxaca and Puebla this week, they have a chance to reclaim the top spot; as division leaders in the southern zone!

The last two games saw a change in the line-up that accounted for a total of 24 runs and 35 hits in commanding victories against second-place Puebla. Sunday’s game also saw Leones starting pitcher Yoanner “Asere” Negrín make Leone’s history as he became the third-winningest pitcher with 56 wins. Displaying a nasty 0.69 ERA with 7 strikeouts in his last two outings.

The recent hiring of a new coach and interim manager Francisco ‘Chico’ Rodríguez seems to be the best signing of the season as his line-up change returned the Leones to the style of ball that propelled them throughout their 2018 campaign– hitting for contact. Other notable mentions post-line-up change are Alex Liddi, who ranked first in the league, with a .600 AVG, 12 hits, 4 walks, 6 runs, and the Cuban Yadir Drake displaying a .435 AVG, 10 hits, 2 home runs, and 8 RBIs.

This week also saw the return of fan-favorite Jonny Jones, who came in to pinch run for Luis ¨Pepon¨ Jurez. After an early-season injury that saw Jonny sidelined for the last few weeks, it will be great to see him return to the outfield and at bat again– before he travels to Tokyo next month! This upcoming week should also see the return of JJ Aguilar to the diamond as he has just been taken off the injured reserve list as of this writing.

The upcoming away series against Oaxaca will see Jake Thompson, Dalton Rodríguez, and Radhamés Liz climb the mound for the Leones; you can watch the games live at 7:00 pm through, SIPSE TV, or La Comadre
