An opening salvo started things off Monday in the top of the first when Cuban slugger Yadir Drake hit a solo shot, bringing the score to 1-0 after an Art Charles strikeout to end the inning.

The top of the second saw Juan Jose Aguilar knock in two runs on a right-field line drive, earning himself a triple, bringing the score to 3-0 in the top of the bottom of the second when Leones’ starting pitcher Rolando Valdez retook the mound.

Valdez was taken out after five impressive innings — making his Leones debut allowing four hits and two runs — for relievers David Gutiérrez, Arnold León, Enrique Burgos, and Josh Lueke.

Alex Liddi came to the plate to start things off for the Leones at the top of the third, where he knocked the ball over the left-field wall for a solo home run of his own, bringing the score to 4-0.

J.J. Aguilar scored from third on a pop-up, bringing the score to 5-2 at the top of the fifth. Liddi scored again in the seventh on a single by Art Charles, bringing the Leones to the ninth when Drake scored on an Art Charles double.

Everything is ready for the Leones’ return tonight at Kukulcán Alamo Park. Tickets are available from 80 pesos and include the three games of the series against the Olmecas de Tabasco.
